Unlike my stance in other areas (...)
I will not pretend to be an
"all-knowing expert" of what makes the
ever ebullient music industry "pop"... (!)
But I can still come up with a TOP 10
of what are, (IMLO) in my luminous opinion,
the biggest hits of the year that is ending TONIGHT...
2007 was, in my eyes, Timbaland's year.
His "Shock Value" release was something else
and he managed to be both artist
AND producer/promoter of other artists on it!
Nelly Furtado had another revealing year
(though revealing she might be flimsy a bit
wasn't exactly a high point in her career)
and she also collaborated with Timbaland,
not-so coincidentally...
Top spot goes to RIHANNA though -
as her song expresses so "spunkily", just in its title,
what I summarily feel about a certain designated driver
that I know, a ninny by the name of ROSA... (!)
Nods go also to the likes of
Sean Kingston, who made a splash
with his ode to being -gulp- suicidal?
Took guts to do that, I guess...!
Kanye West and James Blunt
confirmed their stature too in 2007 -
West blew competitor 50Cent out of the water
(as long as it doesn't end like the
Notorious B.I.G./Tupac feud...!)
while Blunt proved that, 30-odd years ago,
life was better - with 1973
(also proving that his sophomore album
was virtually every bit as good as his
smash-hit breaking first!)
That's for the Top Ten, at least!
Those of you who are pissed off
that I omitted a personal fave
rest easy - and keep listening
to my luminous playlist - ok?
And, as if that wasn't enough,
here's the Billboard charts widget too!
As seen on the laudable blog!
(Or even better than it is seen there!)
*lol*

Judging from the number one hits alone (seen here - link subject to wikipediaesque availability!) I would be tempted to say that, save for a few bright spots here and there... man... 2007 was a very weak year music-wise!
Remember now:
even 100 years ago, some believed that ALL THE SONGS AND ALL THE MUSIC that could have ever been composed, had ALREADY been composed!
Sooner or later, now that we've reached the 21st Century, all that rehashing is going to catch up with us, y'know what I mean...?!?
:!
Not taking any chances with Wikipedia - HERE is the list they had for all number one hits in 2007:

No one...
could have predicted such a list, I'm sure!
Not even the wiliest record exec or talent promoter of all STILL involved in the music industry!
...
Billboard is the authority on the matter, sure...
But a fun site that I appreciate far more is Popculturemadness - chock-full of all sorts of information AND with originality and a sense of humor!
A boring Billboard can't match that!
;)
And it sure did evoke 2002 in that way...!
At least ONE of my readers agrees too!
Thanks - you cowardly lion who won't comment!
*lol*
Joking!
;)
Right...
There is, also, that Groban kid!
Almost forgot!
And, though it was released in mid-November 2006, his album "Awake" really made some noise in 2007 indeed - as is evidenced here.
